whotoblame asked:

I need to install vinyl siding onto PT plywood, but I can’t find a suitable nail that isn’t either recommended against (galvanized roofing nail) or downright prohibited (aluminum siding nail) for use in treated lumber. What will happen if I use either of these nails anyway?

The preservative causing it to the recommended attachment for pressure treated wood anything else could cause chemical reaction to discolor.

the chemicals in the new pressure treated wood will react with the zinc coating or aluminum, and will cause the nails to corrode, and they will eventually disintegrate. hot dipped galvanized ( as opposed to electroplate galvanized) will work fine, as well as stainless steel siding nails. if its old pressure treated lumber, (the chemicals were different until about 2 years ago) electro galvanized will work, but aluminum will not.
