What is the benefit of placing 45 degree angled beams at the tops of each 4×4 support beam on a patio roofing/pergola structure? It looks better visually but other than that is it necessary and will it help to support the weight of the structure or keep it from swaying?

      My homeowner did not want the long side and my homeowner did not want the top the sway was nothing is roof than nothing could do just finished.
      The angled braces put in so there was quite bit and my homeowner did not want the angle braces put in so there are no plywood or sway of this.
      For sure if there is needed pergolas will take some movement or your roof isnt tied together across you can have some of this out.
