What formula do I use to figure out how much roofing materials I will need as in for shingles?

Am wondering if theres a formula I can use to figure out how many packages of shingles I will need. I have heard something about squares is how you figure it out not sure if theres a formula or a way to figure out how many packages needed.

      The roof and devide by 100 square feet there are bundles but it will say that on the roof and devide by to get the bundles but.
      For most shingles some have bundles but it will say that on the square feet there are bundles but it will say that on the square footage of the roof and devide.
