How to keep black walnuts from battering roof?

Big Yoda asked:

It’s a 30′ tall next to my house with around half of the branches extending high over the roof. I dont want to chop it down but I still need to protect the asphalt shingles, or do I? When the walnuts hit the roof in the summer it sounds like an elephant has landed. A net seems impractical. Any ideas?
