mountaindesertminer asked:

I am contemplating a new metal roof for my mobile home. It will be installed over an existing metal roof on which I have installed 1×2 furring strips screwed to the trusses 24″ inches OC for attachment and ventilation. I have included 3/4″ styrofoam for insulation and sound deadening. I have almost no roof jacks on the front side of the roof, but on the back side the jacks are clustered together in a small space. In a perfect world, I want all the jacks to wind up in a the valley or flat of the metal rather than on one of the ribs. Is there a method of trimming the metal to accomplish this?, or am I forced to use a lead jack if I wind up with a pipe through the rib? Sealing the side of the jack towards the peak is another question I have, Do I cut the metal and slide the edge of the jack under the metal and then seal with mastic or collect the water on the top edge and check it every year? Any experienced installers out there want to take a crack at this question? Thanks in advance

We are a roofing company in the Midwest and may do a job in California. Some states in the Midwest require you to have a license, while others do not. Does California require you to have a Roofing Contractor license?

I have an industrial size pressure washer (the kind that has to be hauled on a trailer). We have only had the metal roof for about 1 1/2 year and I am afraid of damaging it with the pressure washer. What chemicals should I use and is there anything natural that can be used?

I am re-doing my roof with a roofing contractor, but I’m not sure what are the best options available. I want to know if a 15lb felt can do the same as a 30lb felt or a water and ice shield. Or, is one option better than another? How effective is a water and ice shield? What is the best, yet cheapest option?

I live in east Texas and have a driveway off the main road that is over one half mile long and about fifteen feet wide. I want to lay down roofing shingle tabs instead of paving the drive with asphalt or pouring concrete but I am having a difficult time finding them. Where can I purchase these by the truckload and have them delivered?

Independent_guy asked:

Hello,
I received a Job estimate from a roofing contractor to install new shingles. The job estimate includes a total price however there is a comment at the bottom of the quote “Rotten wood extra time and materials if needed”. Does it mean I might pay much more if they find issues like ”rotten wood”? Is there a way to avoid this cost uncertainty? Can they check rotten wood in advance or not really, not before they actually start working? Any advice how to avoid surprises in the final price would be HIGHLY appreciated. THANKS.
