Should I remove ice shield and or flashing that was placed in a valley by a roofing contractor when I replace?
Filed Under roofing | 3 Comments
shingles in that area that have lifted because of sun/heat reflection, or should I just replace the shingles at that valley on the side they have lifted. There is no leak! Ice shield apparently has done a terrific job there.
There is already ice shield under the flashing.

I hired a local contractor to replace my roof. Long story short, the roof is leaking around the chimney, and it appears the flashing is bad. There is now internal water damage to the house. I have a contractor with a one year workmanship guarantee, but he is fighting honoring it. He says the damage is not water damage and was not caused by him. He is also resisting redoing the flashing because he says it looks right.
I have gone through the city of Indpls, but they have not been much help, other than providing me with the name of the insurance and bond company. They assured me that I would have little problem collecting the bond, but when I called the bond company they said that this type of bond doesn’t cover workmanship issues. They would not supply me with the text of the bond, saying it was against privacy rules. I do know the contractor did not take out a permit before he did the did the work. What do I have to prove to collect on this type of bond?

How do you interface roof shingles with a stone wall made with highly irregular stone shapes?
Filed Under roofing | 2 Comments
I have found several articles on the internet about roofing and how if you have a wall with stone veneer there are metal flashing products that fit in the mortar lines, lay vertically along the stone, and then pass under the roof shingles. What is done when large, irregularly shaped, real stones are used in a stone wall (think slipformed riprap or similar) that is higher than the roofline? How do you keep water from leaking between the wall and the roof?

We have a flat roof that has several leaks.
So far, only one contractor has been here for an estimate. The other two just quoted me prices based on each leak. A fourth contractor quoted me his hourly rate, and said they don’t come out to do estimates. When they come out, they just fix the leaks.
Also, none of the contractors are giving any kind of warranty/guarantee about the repair?
In addition to checking their license and asking for references, what else do I need to watch out for? I thought I was being diligent, asking for several contractors, but I didn’t expect them to not even come out to do estimate.

If you had a metal roof installed, please name the company, the style of roof and if you are satisified?

We are considering a metal roof, not the plain metal roofing, the type that resembles architectural shingles. Thanks
Am located in Missouri if that makes any difference.

Would these be an example of “architectural roofing shingles”? If not, can you tell me where to find them?

Are these considered architectural shingles?
http://www.dldroofing.com/products.html
If not, can someone please direct me to a place on the web where I can view them?
I am doing some research on various types of roofing for my house. I keep hearing that architectural roofing shingles are the best way to go.
Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
